How to Add a Popup or Banner to your Squarespace Website

Updated May 7th, 2024

In the competitive world of online business, capturing and retaining the attention of your site visitors is crucial. One effective way to do this is by implementing a popup strategy on your Squarespace website. Popups and banners are powerful tools that can engage visitors with valuable offers, relevant content, and compelling calls-to-action, significantly improving your conversion rates.

Why you Should Consider a Popup Strategy

Popups can transform a passive visitor into an active customer. Here’s why incorporating them into your Squarespace website is a smart move:

Increase Engagement: Popups can highlight special offers, announcements, or content that might otherwise go unnoticed, encouraging visitors to interact with your site.

Boost Conversion Rates: By strategically placing popups with enticing offers, you can nudge visitors towards making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or taking other desired actions.

Gather Leads: Use popups to collect email addresses and other contact information, helping you build a robust customer database for future marketing efforts.

Enhance User Experience: Well-designed popups can provide users with relevant information at the right time, making their visit more enjoyable and productive.

Getting Started with a Popup Strategy for your Squarespace Website

Embarking on a popup strategy involves a few key steps to ensure you’re providing value without disrupting the user experience. Here’s how to get started:

Define Your Goals: Understand what you want to achieve with your popups. Are you looking to increase sales, gather leads, or promote a new product? Clear goals will guide your popup design and placement.

Know Your Audience: Tailor your popups to meet the needs and preferences of your visitors. Consider what value you can offer them, such as discounts, exclusive content, or helpful resources.

Design Thoughtfully: A well-designed popup should be visually appealing, easy to read, and include a clear call-to-action. Avoid intrusive designs that may frustrate visitors.

Test and Optimize: Use analytics to track performance and make data-driven adjustments.By carefully planning and executing your popup strategy, you can enhance your Squarespace website’s effectiveness, turning more visitors into loyal customers.

Step 1

Configure Pagecloud

When adding a Pagecloud popup or banner to your third-party hosted website there are a few steps that need to be completed. In this section we'll configure a Pagecloud banner and get it ready to be displayed on your Framer site.

  • Configure your domain name
  • Define the pages we want the banner to display on
  • Copy the embed code to use on your site

Adding your Domain Name

1. Navigate to your Pagecloud dashboard

2. Select your project and click Banners and Popups in your left menu

3. Click Settings on your banner or popup

4. In Setup, make sure you've connected your domain name in the Where to display section

Selecting Pages

Once a domain name has been configured, you can specify the pages where the popup or embed will be displayed. You can choose to display on every page, or only a subset of pages.

It's recommended to use 'Include pages' which allows you to specify individual pages to show the popup without making additional updates to your website.

1. Select 'Include pages'

2. Click the '+ Add pages button'

3. Add the name of your page.

Note: You may also use wildcards in the form '/mypage*' which would match '/mypage' '/mypage2', etc.

Copy Embed Code

Find your embed code in your Pagecloud dashboard. This code is available in Setup at the bottom, or in your left toolbar.

Step 2

Configure Squarespace

To add a banner or popup to your Squarespace website, you first need to choose whether you want to add the banner/popup code to all of your Squarespace pages or only some pages. By placing the banner/popup code on all pages, you can use Pagecloud's embed settings from Step 1 to choose where the banner or popup will appear. Using this approach will allow you to change display settings without having to further update your website.

To add a Pagecloud popup or banner to all pages on your Squarespace site, you can use their Code injection tools.

1. Ensure you've copied the Pagecloud embed code as outlined in Step 1

2. Paste the HTML code into the 'Header' section of the Squarespace Code injection tool

3. Hit Save

Adding popups to your Squarespace website is a powerful way to enhance user engagement, increase conversions, and improve the overall visitor experience. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can create effective popups that capture attention and drive action.
